Of many great features, one of the best about the Wii is that the console’s controllers can be made to act almost like they were actual musical instruments themselves!  Sure it’s no way to substitute for a real piano, trumpet, or percussion classes, but it’s much more fun with no drudgery required!

So first a quick introduction, seeing how this is my first post.  I mean you’re probably curious how I came by this great line of work I bet!  Well believe it or not I was simply traveling in Japan for the summer when I basically got lucky with a job for what turned out to be a third-party contractor that was doing some secret stuff for Nintendo. I’m not using the word “hush” in the sense of real secrets, but only because I must remain anonymous!  Yes, you guessed it: just because Abraham Karadi” is not my real name. The industry is small enough for people to deduce who I might be if they just put two and two thousand three hundred and twenty two point two one nine one together! As you might imagine nobody likes to have their secrets spilled by someone else! So basically it was thanks to this lucky break slaving away for the small outside contractor that I finally got into Nintendo Japan itself, though as previously mentioned I’m not very highly placed.  Yet it’s still a fairly sensitive position so I was forced into signing a non-disclosure agreement.

Adding Fun

Anyway, now that introductions are done with, I’m going to continue by letting you know all about the Wii and its ability to imitate a musical instrument.  You simply use the Wii nunchuk controller and through the wonders of wave-motion technology your hand movements wind up as musical instrument manipulation techniques.  So like for example you’re making like you’re strumming a guitar along.  The Wii nunchuk would be held in your hands but not being actively manipulated by them and you just move your hands around, basically mimicking a guitar recital (air guitar!).  The Wii is smart enough to understand the movements as what a guitarist would actually do.  Now depending on how you do things, like how fast or intensely, etc., you can give sounds certain qualities and thereby affect the timbre and so on.  You don’t have to be exact in anything you do; your fingers aren’t even moved, actually.  Just a good general imitation of things and sounds are made!  Thus you are able to make your own music, and even your own music videos, on the Wii.

Website Publishing

Hello, my name is Abraham Karadi, and I work as a beta tester for you-know-who. But I only want to share a few small thoughts on things from the perspective of a lowly frontline tester, you know, my experiences and so forth, like perhaps it can help generate conversations on what the fans really want and all that!  Harmless, no?  So I think this blog this post in particular offers a true sense of where the industry could be going, and, on occasion, what a beta tester really does and thinks!
